Boardman Twp., MI (July 30, 2026) – One person was seriously hurt on Wednesday, July 29, after a passenger car became trapped beneath a semi-trailer. The collision was reported at 9:44 a.m. at U.S. Highway 131 and Supply Road.
Emergency units found the occupant pinned inside the car. Crews used heavy lifting airbags and truck jacks to raise the trailer before separating the two vehicles.
The car’s roof was removed, and the dashboard was moved to create enough space for the rescue. After being freed, the patient was evaluated and airlifted for advanced hospital treatment.
U.S. Highway 131 remained closed for several hours while the vehicles and roadway debris were cleared. Traffic resumed at approximately 2:00 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under review.
We hope the injured person makes a speedy recovery.
Why Can Cars Trapped Beneath Semi-Trailers Cause Complex Rescues?
Semi-trailers are much taller and heavier than passenger cars. When a smaller vehicle becomes lodged underneath one, the roof and passenger compartment may bend inward, leaving little room around the occupants.
Rescue crews may need lifting airbags, hydraulic tools, supports, and truck jacks to stabilize the trailer. Every movement must be carefully controlled because shifting weight can place additional pressure on the trapped car.
The rescue may take longer when doors cannot open or the dashboard blocks access. Medical teams must also reach the patient while equipment is operating nearby. Road closures provide space for lifting work, helicopter landings, towing, and debris removal. The vehicle positions, trailer weight, and degree of entrapment can all affect how long the operation lasts.
