Santa Nella, CA (September 6, 2026) – A semi-truck and motorcycle were involved in a collision near the Santa Nella Road on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5 at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4.
The vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder and were not blocking traffic lanes. Emergency units were sent to the area shortly afterward.
The California Highway Patrol initially listed the medical status as unknown before updating the accident to one involving minor injuries at about 1:45 p.m.
Authorities continue reviewing the crash. We hope anyone injured recovers fully.
Large Trucks and Motorcycles Have Major Differences in Size and Protection
Semi-trucks can weigh many tons more than motorcycles, creating a substantial mass difference when the two share the same roadway space. Motorcyclists also lack the enclosed passenger compartment, seat belts, and surrounding structure available to truck occupants.
Large commercial vehicles have broad blind spots beside the cab, along the trailer, and immediately behind it. A motorcycle’s narrow profile may be harder to detect within those zones, especially near ramps where vehicles are merging or changing speed.
The severity of harm can depend on travel speed, contact angle, helmet use, and whether the rider falls onto pavement afterward. Even when injuries are initially described as minor, soreness or other symptoms may become clearer later. Adequate spacing can give both drivers more time to recognize changes in traffic.
