Springfield, IL (May 29, 2026) – Several people sustained minor injuries in a multi-vehicle crash involving at least one semi-truck on Interstate 55 in Springfield on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Illinois State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. near Stevenson Drive. Multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck, were involved, causing significant traffic disruptions on the interstate.
Southbound lanes of I-55 remained closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the roadway and investigate the crash. Traffic delays extended into the evening, and congestion also developed on the northbound side of the interstate.
Police said the injuries reported were minor. The number of injured people was not immediately released, and no information on citations or arrests was available.
