Nashville, TN (August 6, 2026) – Several people were injured on Wednesday night, August 5, in a chain-reaction collision on eastbound Interstate 24. The vehicles came together around 10:30 p.m. near mile marker 59 and the Bell Road exit ramp.

Two police vehicles were positioned in the far-left lane while officers handled an earlier roadway matter. A Nissan struck one police vehicle from behind, followed by a Lexus hitting the Nissan and a Chevrolet Suburban contacting the Lexus.

Everyone inside the four vehicles was reported hurt, including one officer. Responders took the civilians to nearby hospitals, while the officer received treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was released later that night. None of the patients was considered critically wounded.

Eastbound lanes reopened around 12:40 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under review.

We hope everyone affected recovers fully.

Factors Behind Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Chain Reactions

A chain reaction can develop when one vehicle strikes stopped or slowing traffic, and nearby drivers have little time to respond. Each point of contact may push a car forward or redirect it into another travel path.

Occupants can experience force from the rear, front, or side within only a few seconds. Sudden movement may affect the head, neck, chest, back, and limbs, even when seat belts and airbags work as intended.

Traffic speed, following distance, vehicle size, and lane position can influence the severity of harm. Multiple damaged cars may also block several lanes and limit access for medical teams and towing crews. Hospital evaluations can identify concussion, muscle strains, fractures, or internal trauma that may not be immediately noticeable.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

Focus on your recovery and
let trusted professionals handle the rest
