Pearl City, HI (August 6, 2026) – A 25-year-old construction worker was seriously injured on Wednesday night, August 5, in a hit-and-run collision on the eastbound H-1 Freeway. The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. in the Pearl City area.

The worker was inside a coned-off construction zone when an eastbound vehicle traveled toward the right side of the roadway and struck him. The driver continued along the freeway without stopping or providing information.

Responders took the injured man to a nearby hospital in serious condition. His identity and further medical details were not released. Investigators continue searching for the vehicle and reviewing what led to the accident.

We hope the construction worker receives care and makes a full recovery.

Why Are Road Workers Vulnerable During Freeway Construction?

Road workers usually perform their duties only a few feet from moving traffic. Cones, signs, barriers, and warning lights help separate work zones, but they cannot fully protect people from a vehicle that leaves its travel lane.

A pedestrian struck at freeway speed may experience severe force without a seat belt, airbag, or enclosed frame for protection. The head, chest, spine, abdomen, and limbs may all be affected.

Lighting, traffic speed, lane width, driver attention, and work-zone design can influence safety. Reduced visibility at night may create added challenges. Clear markings and slower travel give motorists more time to recognize changing roadway conditions and safely pass nearby crews.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

Focus on your recovery and
