Multiple people were hurt in the crash and taken to medical evaluation. Investigators said none of the reported injuries were considered life-threatening.
The roadway remained affected while emergency units worked to clear the damaged vehicles and restore traffic flow. The highway was reopened at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Investigators continue to review the factors that contributed to the collision. We extend our best wishes to those recovering from their injuries.
Why Construction Zones Require Extra Attention From Drivers
Construction zones often present conditions that differ significantly from normal highway travel. Reduced speed limits, narrowed lanes, temporary barriers, and shifting traffic patterns can leave drivers with less time and space to react to changing conditions.
Large vehicles such as semi-trucks may require longer stopping distances, especially when traffic slows unexpectedly. Following too closely or failing to adjust speed can increase the likelihood of chain-reaction crashes involving multiple vehicles.
Road work sections may also include workers operating near moving traffic, making attentive driving especially necessary. Maintaining a safe following distance, obeying posted signs, and remaining alert to lane changes can help reduce risks for everyone traveling through active construction areas.
