SHREVEPORT, Caddo Parish, La., Nov. 2, 2026 — One driver died, and three other people were hurt, two of them critically, in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon, October 31, at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Bethune Drive in Shreveport.
Shreveport police said officers were sent to the intersection at about 2:07 p.m. on reports of a crash and found two heavily damaged vehicles with several people hurt, some of whom had been thrown from their vehicle. The Shreveport Fire Department took all four people involved to Ochsner LSU Health for treatment.
The department's Crash Investigation Unit said a vehicle headed westbound on Hollywood Avenue was speeding when a second vehicle pulled out from Bethune Drive to turn eastbound. The westbound vehicle hit the second vehicle, and three people inside it were ejected. The driver of that second vehicle later died at the hospital. An adult passenger and a teen passenger from the same vehicle remain hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the westbound vehicle was treated for serious injuries.
Investigators said the occupants of the second vehicle were not wearing seat belts and that a child safety seat had not been used. Because of those findings, the department's DWI Unit joined the investigation. The driver of the westbound vehicle voluntarily gave a blood sample for testing at the North Louisiana Crime Lab, though investigators have not said whether impairment played a role.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office took custody of the person who died. Officials said the victim's family has been notified but have not released a name. The crash remains under investigation.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes like this tend to happen?
Intersections where a vehicle is turning or crossing traffic are common sites for deadly T-bone crashes, especially where one vehicle is traveling at high speed.
What makes a crash more likely to be fatal?
Speed, lack of seat belt use, and the angle of impact all raise the odds that a crash will be fatal. A high-speed side impact gives occupants little protection compared to a head-on or rear-end collision.
How much does speed affect the chances of survival?
Higher speeds mean more force at impact, which increases injury severity and the likelihood of ejection, as happened in this crash.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown from a vehicle during a collision. Ejection greatly raises the risk of serious or fatal injury, as investigators say was the case here.
