Shreveport, LA (April 22, 2026) – A man has died following a pedestrian crash on Interstate 20 in Shreveport near the Interstate 49 interchange early Sunday morning.
Emergency units responded around 1:00 a.m. on April 18 after multiple reports of a pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Interstate 49 North. Before officers arrived, additional calls confirmed that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
When responders reached the scene, the man was found unresponsive in the roadway. Life-saving efforts, including CPR, were performed before he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities identified the victim as 40-year-old Ahmad Rashad King. Investigators said the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with officials.
The incident remains under investigation, and an autopsy has been ordered as part of the ongoing review.
Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Ahmad.
Why Pedestrian Crashes on Interstates Are Especially Severe
Pedestrian crashes on interstate highways often result in fatal or severe outcomes due to the high speeds involved. Unlike city streets, interstates are designed for fast-moving traffic with limited safe stopping opportunities.
Low lighting, driver reaction time, and unexpected pedestrian presence can all contribute to the severity of these incidents. Even brief visibility of a person in the roadway may not be enough for drivers to safely avoid a collision.
Emergency response on highways also involves added risks due to active traffic conditions, requiring lane closures and coordinated safety measures for responders.
