Frequently Asked Questions
Does a vehicle's speed change a pedestrian's chances of survival?
Yes. Lower speeds give drivers more time to stop and reduce the force of impact, which generally means less severe injuries for anyone struck.
Where do most pedestrian crashes tend to happen?
Many occur in parking lots, driveways, and other off-road areas, as well as at intersections and crosswalks, usually where visibility is limited or drivers aren't expecting foot traffic.
Are pedestrians at greater risk after dark?
Low light makes it harder for drivers to see people on foot, so a large share of pedestrian crashes happen in the evening or at night, even in areas with some lighting, like parking lots.
What should someone do immediately after being hit by a vehicle?
Call 911 right away, avoid moving if injury is suspected, and get checked by medical professionals even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms take hours to appear.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Crash in Simpsonville, SC
If you or someone nearby is involved in a pedestrian crash, call for emergency help immediately and stay as still as possible until paramedics arrive. Try to note details about the vehicle, the driver, and any witnesses present, since this information can be lost quickly in a parking lot or busy area. Seek a full medical evaluation even after limited first aid at the scene, as injuries like internal bleeding or head trauma aren't always obvious right away. Follow up with local police or the coroner's office if you're asked to provide a statement, and give yourself time to process the shock that comes with this kind of event.
