PENSACOLA, Escambia County, Fla., Oct. 16, 2026 — A 69-year-old man died on Thursday afternoon, October 15, after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 110 in Pensacola. The Florida Highway Patrol said the man, from Navarre, was riding a motorcycle when a sedan struck him and sped off.
Troopers said the crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. on I-110 northbound near the Airport Boulevard exit. The motorcyclist collided with a dark colored sedan, possibly a Honda or Toyota, and died at the scene.
The sedan fled north and is believed to have damage to its rear end, the FHP reported. No description of the driver has been released.
Traffic backed up to the Fairfield Drive exit in the aftermath, witnesses said. A FHP update issued around 6:22 p.m. noted the roadway remained blocked as investigators worked the scene.
The hit-and-run remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the sedan has been asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed change the odds of surviving a motorcycle crash? Yes. Higher speeds mean more force on impact and less time for either driver to react, which raises the chance of serious or fatal injury for the rider.
Why does a helmet matter as much as a seat belt does in a car? A helmet is a motorcyclist's main protection against head injury. Riders without one face a much higher risk of dying in a crash, since they have no frame or airbags to absorb the impact.
What should a family do after a fatal crash like this one? Families can request the official crash report from the responding agency, ask about the status of any investigation, and contact the agency's public information office for updates as they come in.
How do troopers investigate a hit-and-run fatality? Investigators typically examine the scene for debris and paint transfer, review nearby traffic or surveillance cameras, and ask the public for tips on the fleeing vehicle's description.
What to Do After a Hit-And-Run Motorcycle Crash in Pensacola, FL
If you witness or are involved in a hit-and-run, try to note the fleeing vehicle's color, make, direction of travel, and any visible damage, then report it to law enforcement right away. Riders and bystanders should seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some trauma from a motorcycle crash isn't obvious right away. Keep copies of any police report and photos of the scene, and follow up with the investigating agency for updates on the search for the driver. Pensacola residents can also check with local hospitals or the Florida Highway Patrol for the latest information on an open case.
