Perry, GA (August 8, 2026) – Six people were taken to hospitals on Thursday night after two vehicles collided head-on on Houston Lake Road in Perry.

The collision happened around 7:45 p.m. as two cars traveled in opposite directions on Houston Lake Road. One vehicle overturned after the two cars struck each other. Five people from one vehicle and one person from the other were taken for medical treatment. The Perry Police Department could not confirm their conditions.

All southbound lanes of Houston Lake Road were temporarily closed following the accident. Traffic has since resumed through the affected section, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s 511 website. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under review, and additional details may become available as the investigation continues.

We are thinking of everyone who was hurt and wishing them a smooth recovery.

Why Head-On Collisions Can Cause Serious Injuries

Head-on collisions can be particularly dangerous because vehicles traveling in opposite directions meet with significant force. The severity of injuries can depend on factors such as vehicle speed, vehicle size, occupant position, and whether seat belts were being used.

Investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway markings, debris, witness accounts, and available video footage to establish how the vehicles were moving before contact. They may also review traffic patterns and roadway conditions.

An overturned vehicle can require additional time to clear because crews must ensure the vehicle is safely removed and debris is cleared from travel lanes. Temporary lane closures may be necessary while these tasks are completed and the roadway is made safe for traffic.
