Southold, NY (July 20, 2026) – Six people were injured in an afternoon crash involving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a Toyota Tacoma at Route 48 and Youngs Avenue in Southold. The collision happened at about 1:32 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.
A 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van traveling eastbound on County Route 48 collided with a 2001 Toyota Tacoma. The Toyota driver, identified as 89-year-old Anne Pizzicara of Southold, was making a left turn from westbound County Route 48 and failed to yield the right of way.
The Sprinter van driver, identified as 58-year-old Darryl Atkinson of Uniondale, and four passengers in the van were taken to area hospitals for evaluation of minor injuries. Both drivers were also transported for treatment. Our thoughts are with those affected.
