Newport, NC (August 23, 2026) – First responders were dispatched to the scene of a fatal head-on crash that left six people injured on Friday afternoon, August 21, on Sam Garner Road. The accident was reported around 5 p.m.
According to the highway patrol, one vehicle was traveling north while another was heading south when the northbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck the southbound vehicle head-on. The northbound driver declined medical treatment. Six people inside the other vehicle were taken to Carteret Health Care for treatment.
Their conditions were not provided. Sam Garner Road was closed for about an hour following the crash before reopening. The incident remains under investigation.
