Why Rear-End Collisions With Semis Can Lead to Additional Hazards
Rear-end crashes involving large trucks can create additional risks beyond the initial impact. Passenger vehicles may sustain significant front-end damage, which can lead to fluid leaks or smoke if mechanical systems are compromised.
When fluids spill onto hot engine components, smoke may develop shortly after impact. These situations require careful handling to reduce the risk of fire or further damage.
Highway speeds and differences in stopping distance between passenger vehicles and semi-trucks can also increase the severity of these crashes, especially in sudden traffic slowdowns.
