Frequently Asked Questions
How can cyclists stay safer when riding near traffic?
Riding with lights and reflective gear, staying predictable, and using marked bike lanes where available can help drivers see cyclists sooner, especially at dusk or after dark.
What should a cyclist do immediately after a crash with a vehicle?
Call 911, stay as still as possible if injured, and wait for emergency responders. If able, try to move to a safe area away from traffic and avoid moving an injured person unnecessarily.
Do cyclists have the same rights to the road as drivers?
In California and most states, cyclists are generally entitled to the same rights and subject to the same rules as motor vehicle operators, including the right to a full lane in many situations.
Are intersections a common site for bicycle crashes?
Intersections involve turning and crossing movements that increase the chance a driver or cyclist may not see the other in time, making caution and visibility especially important there.
