Why Motorcyclist Crashes Become Severe in Changing Weather
Motorcycle crashes can become especially dangerous when weather conditions shift quickly. Sudden rain can reduce traction on the roadway, making it harder for both motorcycles and larger vehicles to stop or maneuver safely.
Visibility may also decrease during passing squalls, limiting a driver’s ability to see nearby vehicles in time to react. Road edges, guardrails, and curves can further increase risk in these conditions.
Collisions involving motorcycles and larger vehicles often result in severe outcomes due to the limited protection for riders. Investigators typically review weather conditions, roadway design, and vehicle positioning to better understand how these crashes occur.
