Newberry Springs, CA (September 2, 2026) – Two vehicles left southbound Interstate 15 near the Harvard Road off-ramp on Monday, August 31. The first report came in at about 11:36 a.m., with both vehicles stopped along the right shoulder.

A caller said they swerved to avoid another vehicle before making contact with it. A later caller reported that a Honda had been speeding and cut off another vehicle before the collision. Those statements were included in the initial dispatch information.

Medical assistance was requested around 11:39 a.m. Emergency units were with the people involved by about 12:02 p.m., and towing assistance was requested shortly afterward.

Investigators are continuing to determine the sequence of events. We hope anyone hurt makes a full recovery.

High-Speed Lane Changes Can Increase Freeway Injury Risks

Sudden lane changes at freeway speeds can leave nearby drivers with very little time to react. A driver may brake sharply or steer away when another vehicle moves into the available space, increasing the risk of losing control.

Speed can make those movements more difficult to manage. Vehicles travel farther during each second of reaction time, while abrupt steering can shift weight quickly and reduce stability. Leaving the paved travel lanes can add hazards such as uneven ground, slopes, barriers, or roadside objects.

Safe following distance and gradual lane changes give motorists more room to adjust to changing traffic. Higher speeds reduce that margin, especially when several vehicles are traveling close together. The direction of travel, vehicle position, and available shoulder space can all influence the severity of resulting injuries.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
