What Happens After a Hit-and-Run Crash?
A hit-and-run crash occurs when a driver involved in a collision leaves the scene without stopping and providing the required information. When another vehicle remains at the scene, its occupants may need to move to a safe position if they can do so without creating additional danger.
Important details can include the direction the other vehicle traveled, its color, make, model, and license plate information. Witness accounts may also help establish what happened before the driver left.
A rollover can create additional risks because vehicles may leave the travel lanes and enter shoulders, ditches, or other areas. Seat belts can help keep occupants inside the passenger compartment during a rollover. Airbags and properly adjusted restraints can also reduce the chance of serious harm during sudden vehicle movement.
