St. Joseph County, IN (May 18, 2026) – Authorities are responding to a serious crash involving a passenger vehicle and a combine early Monday morning near the intersection of New Road and Kenilworth Road.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 3:14 a.m. after reports of a collision involving a motor vehicle and farm equipment.
Responding crews also reported that trees and power lines may have been down in the area, creating additional hazards and prompting additional safety concerns for motorists and utility workers.
Investigators remained at the scene for an extended period while assessing roadway conditions and documenting evidence related to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area until further notice due to debris, downed lines, and emergency response activity.
Motor Vehicle Safety and Rural Road Awareness
Crashes involving farm equipment and passenger vehicles can be especially dangerous due to the large size and limited visibility of agricultural machinery. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution on rural roads, particularly during early morning hours or when visibility is reduced.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed, remain alert for slow-moving equipment, and avoid distractions while driving. Extra caution should be used when approaching intersections or areas where farm vehicles may be entering or crossing roadways.
