St. Louis, MO (January 4, 2026) – A devastating two-car collision late on Friday night in St. Louis County resulted in two fatalities and multiple serious injuries. The crash occurred just after 11:00 p.m. on southbound MO-367, south of Chambers Rd, prompting an extensive emergency response from local agencies.
Emergency responders from the Florissant Fire Protection District and Christian Hospital EMS arrived swiftly to assist the injured and assess the scene. Investigators reported that the driver of a 2016 Chrysler 300, traveling northbound, lost control of the vehicle. The Chrysler traveled sideways across the solid yellow line and entered the path of southbound traffic, where it was struck on the passenger side by a 2015 Mazda 3.
Tragically, a 26-year-old female passenger in the Chrysler was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS at 11:18 p.m. The 22-year-old female driver of the Mazda 3 sustained critical injuries and was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where she was later pronounced dead by medical personnel at 12:50 a.m.
Multiple others were seriously hurt. A 21-year-old male driver of the Chrysler was hospitalized with moderate injuries. A 31-year-old female passenger in the same vehicle, who had been wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Additionally, two other adult female occupants of the Mazda, ages 18 and 21, suffered serious injuries and were transported by EMS for emergency treatment.
Both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage and were towed from the scene by Terry’s Towing. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Crash Investigation Unit #2, including Sgt. C. J. North and Tpr. D. J. Bittick, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident, and we wish healing and strength to the survivors recovering from their injuries.
Fatal Crashes in Missouri
Severe crashes like the one that occurred on MO-367 in St. Louis County are tragic reminders of how quickly a single moment of lost control can result in irreversible consequences. When a driver crosses into oncoming traffic, as occurred in this incident, the resulting force and angle of impact can be deadly, particularly in side-impact collisions.
In this case, the collision resulted in the deaths of two young women and serious injuries to several others. Investigators noted that multiple occupants were not using safety restraints, a factor that likely contributed to the severity of injuries. Missouri law continues to stress the importance of seat belt usage, yet enforcement and consistent compliance remain challenges, especially among young adult drivers and passengers.
MO-367 is a heavily traveled route connecting residential areas to key arterial roads, and its multi-lane structure can make recovery difficult if a vehicle veers out of its lane. Weather, speed, and road conditions may all contribute to loss of control, but a sideways trajectory across a solid yellow divider is particularly dangerous due to the risk of direct impact with oncoming traffic.
Families affected by fatal collisions are often left to navigate complex emotional and legal situations. In addition to mourning their loved ones, they must contend with medical expenses, insurance processes, and potential wrongful death investigations. Accessing the right support systems, legal, emotional, and financial, becomes essential in the aftermath.
This incident highlights the need for community awareness, driver education, and accountability measures that can help prevent similar tragedies. Whether it’s reinforcing safe driving habits, improving road infrastructure, or ensuring seat belt use, multiple layers of prevention are necessary to save lives.
