St. Louis, MO (February 1, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle accident involving several motorists resulted in injuries early on Friday morning along northbound Interstate 270, just south of Interstate 64, in St. Louis County. The collision occurred at approximately 5:47 a.m., prompting a large emergency response and causing significant disruption to traffic in the area during the morning commute.
Authorities indicate that the incident unfolded when one vehicle experienced mechanical trouble while traveling along the interstate. As traffic moved through the northbound lanes, the disabled vehicle crossed multiple lanes of travel before coming into the path of other vehicles. Moments later, several vehicles collided in a chain-reaction accident that spread across the roadway. Due to the number of vehicles involved and the complexity of the scene, emergency crews worked quickly to stabilize the situation and assist those impacted.
Emergency responders from St. Louis Fire and Rescue arrived to find multiple damaged vehicles scattered across the interstate. Paramedics assessed numerous individuals at the scene and provided care to those suffering from a variety of injuries. Three drivers, including a 19-year-old male, a 25-year-old male, and a 37-year-old female, were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Des Peres Ambulance District for further medical evaluation and treatment. Their injuries were described as minor, though the full extent of their conditions has not been publicly disclosed.
Several vehicles sustained extensive or total damage and required towing from the scene, while others with less severe damage were able to be driven away after being cleared. Traffic along northbound I-270 was slowed for an extended period as crews worked to clear debris, remove disabled vehicles, and ensure the roadway was safe for travel.
