Lowry City, MO (June 8, 2026) – According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, one person suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on MO-13 near Lowry City in St. Clair County. The collision happened around 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

The report said a 2002 Ford F-150 attempted to cross the highway and entered the path of a northbound 2018 Ford Escape. The Escape struck the pickup in the side, causing severe damage to both vehicles.

The 92-year-old driver of the pickup, identified as a man from Hutchinson, Kansas, was seriously hurt in the wreck. He was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar for treatment. The 63-year-old driver of the Ford Escape, a man from Appleton City, Missouri, was not reported injured.

Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

We are thinking of the injured man and wish him a full recovery.

Why Crossing Highway Traffic Can Be Dangerous

Crashes can occur when drivers attempt to cross or enter highways without enough time to safely clear approaching traffic in Lowry City. Vehicles traveling at highway speeds may have little opportunity to slow down or avoid contact once another vehicle enters their path. In addition, traffic safety data shows that failure to yield is a contributing factor in a substantial number of intersection and highway-entry collisions nationwide.

Side-impact collisions can be especially dangerous because there is less structural protection on the sides of a vehicle compared to the front or rear. Furthermore, national crash statistics indicate that angle or side-impact crashes are more likely to result in serious injuries due to the limited space between occupants and the point of impact. Older drivers may also face increased injury risks due to physical vulnerability during major impacts, which is reflected in injury severity data across age groups.

Safety experts encourage motorists to carefully judge traffic gaps and remain patient when crossing busy highways. In addition, roadway safety studies suggest that taking extra time before entering a roadway and maintaining awareness of oncoming traffic can help reduce the likelihood of severe collisions.
