Why Student Pedestrian Injuries Near Schools Need Careful Review
Pedestrian injuries near schools can raise concern because many students walk near traffic during busy arrival and dismissal times. Drivers may be turning, stopping, or moving through intersections while students cross nearby streets. Even a brief distraction or blocked view can increase the risk of contact between a vehicle and a person walking.
Medical checks are needed after a student is hit, even when early details are limited. Pain, bruising, dizziness, or trouble walking may appear after the first evaluation. Road design can also matter, including crosswalks, sidewalks, traffic signals, driveway access, and visibility near corners. School zones and nearby intersections usually require extra attention because students may be moving in groups, crossing at different points, or walking close to stopped vehicles.
