Las Vegas, NV (May 22, 2026) – A bicyclist was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries on Thursday afternoon after a collision involving a semi-truck near Del Rey Avenue and South Rainbow Boulevard in the west valley.
The crash was reported just before 2:30 p.m. on May 21. The cause of the wreck has not been confirmed, though impairment was not suspected. South Rainbow Boulevard was closed in both directions between Del Rey Avenue and West Charleston Boulevard following the accident.
No names or ages for those involved had been made public as of this report, but the case remains open as investigators work to determine exactly how the two came together.
We hope for a full recovery for the cyclist and keep them in our thoughts during this difficult time.
What Cyclists and Drivers Should Know About Sharing the Road with Large Trucks
Bicyclists and large commercial trucks are a particularly challenging combination on city streets. Semi-trucks have significant blind spots, areas where the driver simply cannot see smaller road users, and those blind spots extend along both sides of the vehicle, directly in front, and behind the trailer. A cyclist riding in any of those zones may be completely invisible to the truck driver.
Large trucks also need far more room to stop than passenger cars. At city speeds, a fully loaded semi may require twice the stopping distance of a typical vehicle. For cyclists, this means that moving into or across a truck’s path, even briefly, can leave the driver with no time to react. Staying visible, avoiding blind spots, and being predictable around large vehicles are habits that make street riding considerably safer.
