What Can Happen to the Body in a Head-On Crash Involving a Large Truck
Head-on crashes between passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks tend to produce serious physical consequences, even at moderate speeds. The weight difference between an 18-wheeler and an SUV is dramatic, a fully loaded commercial truck can weigh up to 40 times more than a standard passenger vehicle. That disparity means the smaller vehicle absorbs a much greater share of the force.
When an SUV rolls over as a result of a collision, the risk of injury increases further. Roof contact with the ground can affect the head, neck, and spine. Being pinned inside a vehicle also extends the time before medical care can begin, which may matter depending on the type of harm involved. Seatbelts remain one of the most effective ways to reduce movement inside a rolling vehicle.
