TAMPA, Hillsborough County, Fla., Oct. 25, 2026 — A Tampa police officer and two bus passengers were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on Saturday morning, October 24, that left a patrol cruiser on its roof at a Tampa intersection.
The crash happened around 9 a.m. at North 34th Street and East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to the Tampa Police Department. A police cruiser, a Hillsborough Area Regional Transit bus and a car collided at the intersection, and the cruiser rolled over.
The officer driving the cruiser, described as a 12-year veteran of the department, suffered a cut to the head and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officer was alone in the car at the time. Two adult passengers on the bus were also taken to a hospital for evaluation as a precaution, and the police said none of the injuries on the bus appeared serious.
The driver of the third vehicle, reported as a 2017 white Dodge Charger, suffered a minor leg injury and was treated at the scene. Investigators said the cruiser had been heading east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard while the bus was traveling south on North 34th Street, and the Charger had been stopped in the northbound lanes of North 34th Street when the three vehicles came together.
Tampa police traffic investigators are still working to determine what led to the crash, and officials have not said whether any citations will be issued.

A large share of crashes occur at intersections, where crossing or turning paths create the chance for vehicles to collide at an angle or head-on.

Head injuries, cuts, and leg or knee injuries are common, especially in rollovers or crashes involving sudden impact. Even passengers who feel fine afterward are usually advised to get checked out, since some injuries don't show symptoms right away.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Tampa, FL
If you're involved in a crash with multiple vehicles, start by getting yourself and anyone with you to a safe location away from traffic. Call for medical help even if injuries seem minor, since adrenaline can mask pain from a cut, a bruised joint, or a head bump. Cooperate with responding officers and get a copy of the police report once it's available. If you were a passenger on a bus or in another vehicle, follow up with your own doctor in the days after the crash, even if you were cleared at the scene. Tampa's intersections see heavy mixed traffic from cars, buses, and emergency vehicles, so documenting what happened, including photos and witness names, can help later if questions come up about how the crash occurred.
