What Happens After a Pedestrian Is Struck by a Car in Columbus?
When a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle, the severity of the injury depends on several factors, including the speed of the car, the point of contact, and whether the person was in a designated crossing zone. Young pedestrians are particularly vulnerable because they may be less visible to drivers and less predictable in their movements. Injuries from these crashes can range from broken bones to serious trauma requiring immediate surgical care.
Hospitals that specialize in pediatric care, like Nationwide Children’s in Columbus, are equipped to handle the most serious cases involving young patients. Critical designations mean medical teams are working quickly and closely to stabilize the person. Even after initial treatment, recovery from a serious pedestrian crash can take a long time and may require ongoing rehabilitation.
Crosswalk use is a key factor that investigators typically note in pedestrian crash reports, as it helps establish where each party was positioned and what each could reasonably have seen before impact.
