Denton, TX (August 7, 2026) – A single-vehicle crash in Denton on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a Krum ISD student and left two other teens with serious injuries.
The crash occurred on FM 1173 while the vehicle was traveling eastbound toward Interstate 35. A teenage driver and two passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. One of the passengers later died while receiving medical care.
Krum Independent School District confirmed in a social media statement that the teen who lost their life was one of its students. The district expressed its condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates, and the broader school community, adding that counseling services would be available to support students and staff in the coming days.
FM 1173 remained closed for several hours while investigators examined the roadway before reopening around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The identity of the deceased student will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
