San Diego, CA (May 25, 2026) – A 15-year-old boy was hurt on Sunday evening, May 24, after his electric bicycle and an SUV were involved in a collision in San Diego’s Pacific Beach neighborhood.
The accident was reported at about 7:02 p.m. in the 2100 block of Pacific Beach Drive near Noyes Street. Officials said the teen was riding a Zooz eBike westbound on Pacific Beach Drive.
A 17-year-old girl was driving a 2022 Kia Niro westbound when she attempted a U-turn at Noyes Street. The e-bike and the driver’s side of the SUV then made contact.
The teen fractured his right femur, though the injury was described as not life-threatening. The police said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the wreck; the cause remains under review as investigators continue gathering details.
We hope the teen receives strong care and support during recovery.
Why E-Bike Riders Can Be Seriously Hurt in Vehicle Collisions
E-bike riders can face serious harm when they are involved with larger vehicles. Even at city speeds, a rider has limited protection beyond a helmet and clothing. A fall or direct contact with a vehicle can lead to broken bones, head trauma, back pain, or injuries to the arms and legs.
Intersections and turning points can be especially risky because drivers and riders may be moving in the same direction or crossing paths. Visibility, traffic speed, lane position, and turning space can all affect how much time each person has to react. After an e-bike-related roadway emergency, doctors may check for fractures, swelling, pain, and hidden trauma. Vehicle damage, witness statements, and nearby camera footage may also help explain how the contact happened.
