Troy Township, OH (August 13, 2026) – A 13-year-old girl was killed, and two others were hurt after a suspected impaired driver struck their vehicle early on Wednesday morning in Geauga County. The wreck happened around 12:30 a.m. on Route 422 in Troy Township.

Troopers said a black Nissan sedan collided with a silver Mitsubishi carrying Danielle Wilburn and her two daughters. Wilburn’s 13-year-old daughter, Lauren Braxton, died in the accident. Her 6-year-old daughter, Journee Wilburn-Boston, remains hospitalized in Cleveland and is working to regain feeling in her legs, according to her mother. Wilburn is also recovering from several broken vertebrae; she said the two girls were asleep when the vehicles collided.

The police arrested 28-year-old Jaisean Gambill in connection with the fatal collision. He faces charges including aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault, while troopers said drugs and alcohol are suspected of contributing to the crash.

Gambill was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. The investigation into the wreck continues as the circumstances are reviewed.

Our hearts go out to the family mourning their daughter while the surviving family members recover.

How Impaired Driving Can Increase Crash Risks

Alcohol and drugs can affect several abilities needed for safe driving. Impairment may slow reaction time, reduce attention, affect judgment, and make it harder to control a vehicle.

An impaired driver may have difficulty judging speed or distance and may be less able to recognize hazards. These effects can become more dangerous at night, when visibility is already limited.

Passengers can also face serious risks when riding with an impaired driver. Choosing a sober driver, taxi, rideshare, or another safe way home can help prevent an impaired-driving crash.

The effects of alcohol can vary based on how much a person consumes, how quickly it is consumed, and other factors. Drugs can also affect driving ability, whether used alone or together with alcohol.

2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
