Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than crashes involving two cars?
A motorcycle offers no outer frame or airbags to absorb a crash, so riders and passengers take the impact directly. Even a low-speed collision can cause serious injury or death.
How do collisions like this often happen at intersections?
Many motorcycle and car collisions happen when a driver turning left misjudges the speed or distance of an oncoming motorcycle, or simply doesn't see it in time to stop.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice, slowing down at intersections, and not assuming a lane is clear can help drivers notice motorcycles before turning or merging.
What should someone do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
Call 911, stay as still as possible until medical help arrives, and get checked by a doctor even if injuries seem minor, since some trauma doesn't show symptoms right away. Keep a record of the responding agency's report number for insurance and medical follow-up.
