The collision occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on S Staples St near Wooldridge Rd. At least three vehicles were involved, and two of them, a pickup truck and an SUV, came to rest over the curb after the impact.
Emergency units arrived at the roadway and took three people to a local hospital. One of those patients was reported to be in critical condition. The damaged vehicles blocked multiple lanes of S Staples St, causing significant traffic delays as the roadway was cleared.
The identities of those involved have not been released, and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We are keeping those injured in our thoughts and wish them a full recovery.
Why Multi-Vehicle Collisions Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Crashes involving three or more vehicles usually create complex damage patterns because each impact can affect the movement of surrounding vehicles. A single collision may trigger additional impacts, increasing the likelihood of severe injuries and extensive property damage.
Investigators typically review vehicle positions, roadway markings, witness accounts, and available video footage to determine the sequence of impacts. Traffic signals, weather conditions, and visibility may also be evaluated during the review. Because multiple vehicles are involved, it can take additional time to establish the order of events and determine the factors that contributed to the collision.
