Ionia, MI (July 30, 2026) – Three people were injured on Wednesday, July 29, in a chain-reaction collision on eastbound Interstate 96. The vehicles came together shortly after 6:00 p.m. near mile marker 68, east of M-66.
The accident involved three tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. Investigators said one eastbound truck struck the rear of another semi, triggering contact among five vehicles.
A 48-year-old Oxford man driving a 2025 Ford Mustang had a possible head injury. His 48-year-old female passenger had cuts to her head. Both were taken to Sparrow Lansing Hospital and listed in stable condition.
A truck passenger received treatment for a minor shoulder injury at Sparrow Ionia Hospital. The 43-year-old Memphis driver traveling with that passenger was not hurt.
Eastbound lanes were closed as emergency units worked along the freeway, causing traffic backups. Construction lane restrictions were also active nearby. Authorities continue reviewing the sequence that led to the wreck.
