Los Banos, CA (September 11, 2026) – Three people died Thursday afternoon, September 10, after their vehicle overturned into a canal near Overland Avenue and H Street west of Los Banos, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle was found completely submerged and upside down, with only its wheels visible above the water.
Roughly eight bystanders jumped into the water before emergency crews arrived, working together to turn the vehicle onto its side and reach those trapped inside. They pulled the occupants to the bank and began CPR. Two victims died at the scene, and a third died later at a hospital. The victims, ranging in age from 59 to 69, included a man and two women from Los Banos; their identities have not been released.
Overland Avenue and H Street were closed for several hours while CHP investigated. The investigation remains ongoing. Our condolences go out to the victims’ families and loved ones.
