Middlefield, OH (June 22, 2026) – The identities of three people who lost their lives in a plane crash on Saturday afternoon, June 20, in a field along Bridge Road in Middlefield, Geauga County, have been released.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 17030 block of Bridge Road when a Piper Comanche 250 went down while approaching the Geauga County Airport. The aircraft crashed about a mile before the planned landing area. The victims were identified as 76-year-old Thomas Cunningham of Rome, 71-year-old John Taipale, and 40-year-old Alexander Taipale, both of Geneva. All three passengers suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The aircraft remained intact after the crash, though some parts were found in the surrounding field. No one on the ground was injured. The incident remains under review by authorities.
