Lakewood, CA (July 4, 2026) – Emergency responders were dispatched early Saturday morning following a three-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 605 near the eastbound Carson Street on-ramp in Lakewood.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the crash was reported at approximately 3:14 a.m. after a dark-colored SUV collided with a retaining wall, blocking the on-ramp. Responding officers later confirmed the incident involved three vehicles, with two of them blocking the two right lanes of northbound I-605 and another obstructing the on-ramp.
One person at the scene was described as appearing disoriented, prompting authorities to upgrade the incident to require an ambulance response. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was dispatched to provide medical assistance.
During the response, authorities also received a report of another vehicle beneath the freeway on Carson Street. CHP later indicated that the driver appeared to be asleep, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to investigate whether the vehicle was involved in the collision.
Tow services were requested to remove damaged vehicles, and CHP temporarily closed the eastbound Carson Street on-ramp to northbound I-605 while crews cleared the scene.
Authorities have not released information regarding the extent of any injuries or identified those involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We hope anyone injured in the collision makes a full and speedy recovery.
Disoriented Drivers Following a Collision Require Immediate Medical Evaluation
After a motor vehicle collision, a driver who appears confused, disoriented, or unresponsive may be suffering from a concussion, other traumatic injury, or a medical emergency unrelated to the crash. Emergency responders prioritize evaluating these individuals to determine whether immediate transport to a hospital is necessary.
Multi-vehicle freeway crashes often require temporary lane closures to protect first responders and prevent secondary collisions. Investigators typically examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements, and traffic conditions to determine the sequence of events and identify factors that contributed to the incident.
