Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes crashes like this one?
Common factors include wet or slick roads, limited visibility, failure to yield at intersections and driver distraction. Investigators typically review all of these before determining a cause.
Why can wet weather make intersection crashes more likely?
Rain reduces tire grip and increases stopping distance, so vehicles can slide through intersections or struggle to stop in time, especially where visibility is already reduced at night.
What should someone do after being involved in a crash like this?
Move to safety if possible, call 911, and wait for law enforcement and EMS to assess injuries and document the scene before vehicles are moved.
Why is distracted driving particularly risky at intersections?
Intersections require constant attention to cross traffic, signals and turning vehicles. Even a brief distraction can delay a driver's reaction enough to cause a collision.
