Springfield, MA (August 3, 2026) – According to the Springfield Police Department, a 2-year-old child and four other people were hurt after a multi-vehicle crash early on Sunday morning, August 2, at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Bridge Street in Springfield.
Rescue teams arrived in the area shortly after 1 a.m. after nearby officers heard tires screech and located the crash scene. Authorities said a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Johnny Perez of Springfield allegedly ran a red light and struck another car, causing four additional unoccupied vehicles to be hit. The child was reportedly thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The toddler and four other people were taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
