TOLEDO, Lucas County, Ohio, Nov. 5, 2026 — A 6-year-old girl remains on a ventilator after a hit-and-run crash pinned her and a man under an ATV near Upton Street and Marlow Avenue in Toledo on Wednesday evening, October 28. Toledo police said the driver of the vehicle that struck the ATV fled the scene and has not been identified.
The girl, identified by her mother as Mykayla Arrington, was waiting to cross Upton Street with a man who runs her after-school program when the crash happened. Investigators said a man riding an ATV north on Upton Street was hit by a dark-colored Ford SUV that was heading south and turning left onto Marlow Avenue. The impact reportedly sent the ATV into the girl and the man, who were standing in the road behind a postal truck, pinning both of them underneath it.
The girl's mother said her daughter suffered two broken legs and bruised lungs, and that doctors have expressed concern about her brain function once she wakes up. She said surgeons have operated three times in an effort to save the girl's right leg and foot, including a procedure to restore a pulse in the limb. Another surgery is expected, according to her mother.
The man who was with the girl is also hospitalized in intensive care with a broken left leg and was scheduled for surgery. She said two women at the scene helped lift the ATV off her daughter before emergency crews arrived.
Toledo police continue to investigate. We wish those injured a swift and full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian (or their family) do after a hit-and-run crash like this?
Report the crash to police as soon as possible, preserve any surveillance or dash-cam video, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries aren't immediately obvious. Early documentation can help investigators identify a fleeing driver.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk or when crossing a street?
In most states, including Ohio, pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk generally have the right of way, but all road users are expected to use caution, especially where visibility is blocked by parked vehicles or trucks.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian crashes involving vehicles?
Broken bones, head and brain injuries, and internal injuries are common, since pedestrians have no protection from impact. Injuries can range from fractures to life-threatening trauma depending on the speed and force involved.
