Huntsville, AL (July 16, 2026) – A 35-year-old Toney man died after a crash involving a sport utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer on Wednesday morning, July 15, on Highway 53 near Kelly Springs Road in Huntsville.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened around 6:42 a.m. when a 2003 Toyota 4Runner driven by William E. Darby collided with a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by a 27-year-old man from Sacramento, California.
Darby suffered critical injuries and was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Authorities said he later died from his injuries. The condition of the tractor-trailer driver was not immediately released.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
