Why Intersection Crashes Are Common in Small Boroughs
Intersections in small towns often see steady local traffic throughout the day. Roads like 2nd Street and Elizabeth Street may not have traffic signals, which can increase the risk of confusion over right-of-way. Even at lower speeds, vehicles entering from different directions can collide if drivers misjudge timing.
Midday traffic can also contribute to crashes. Delivery vehicles, local businesses, and residents running errands all share the same streets. When visibility is limited by parked cars or nearby buildings, drivers may have less time to react.
Damage to vehicles can be severe even in neighborhood crashes. Following posted signs, slowing before intersections, and staying alert to cross traffic can help reduce the chance of a collision in borough settings.
