Why Crashes Involving Farm Equipment Can Be Especially Dangerous
Crashes involving tractors and other farm equipment can lead to severe injuries because agricultural vehicles are often smaller, slower, and less protected than passenger vehicles. On rural roads, drivers may approach farm machinery quickly and have limited time to react.
Many tractors are not designed to withstand high-speed roadway impacts. In some cases, operators may be thrown from the equipment, especially when seat restraints or enclosed cabs are not present. Visibility can also become a concern when farm vehicles travel along narrow roads or near curves and hills.
Rural crashes may require longer emergency response times depending on the distance from nearby medical facilities. Investigators often review roadway conditions, vehicle speeds, and sightlines when examining these types of collisions.
