Lutz, FL (June 24, 2026) – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured Tuesday morning after a patrol vehicle was struck from behind while stopped at a traffic signal in Lutz.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of State Road 54 at Northpointe Parkway.
Investigators said a Dodge Ram patrol truck operated by an FHP trooper was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by a Buick sedan driven by an 18-year-old woman from Hudson.
Emergency responders transported the trooper to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities reported that the teenage driver sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
Photos released from the scene showed significant front-end damage to the Buick involved in the collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol cited the 18-year-old driver for careless driving. The crash remains under investigation.
