Pottawatomie County, OK (June 25, 2026) – An afternoon crash at the intersection of US 177 and Summerwood Lane in Pottawatomie County killed a driver and left several other people injured.
The collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Investigators said that a southbound vehicle had stopped while waiting to make a left turn when an unidentified vehicle passed it on the right shoulder. As that vehicle moved away, a southbound dump truck was unable to stop and went into a broad slide before crossing both northbound and southbound lanes and striking multiple vehicles.
The dump truck and a 2016 Ford Transit Connect caught fire following the impact. Adam Calwell, 39, who was driving the Ford, died from his injuries. The drivers and passengers in the other involved vehicles suffered injuries, although officials have not released the number of people hurt or the extent of their injuries.
We send our deepest sympathies to the grieving family and friends of Adam Calwell.
What Is Commonly Reviewed After a Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving a Dump Truck?
Multi-vehicle crashes involving large commercial trucks mostly require a detailed review of vehicle movements, braking, and roadway conditions. Investigators examine tire marks, impact locations, and the final positions of the vehicles to determine how the collision unfolded. The actions of all drivers involved may also be considered.
When a commercial truck is unable to stop, investigators may review factors such as vehicle speed, braking performance, load weight, and road surface conditions. If a fire occurs after the collision, fire damage and the points where the vehicles ignited may also be documented. These findings help explain the sequence of events and provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
