The people inside the Navigator were taken to a nearby hospital with minor hurt. Investigators said everyone inside the SUV was wearing seat belts. The tractor-trailer driver, identified as Sardor Ismailov of Abingdon, Maryland, was not injured.
Police said Ismailov was charged with failure to obey a highway sign. Further details about the collision were not immediately available.
Investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the wreck. We are thinking of those receiving medical care following the roadway accident.
Why Red-Light Violations Often Lead to Serious Highway Collisions
Crashes involving red-light violations can become especially dangerous on busy highways and large intersections. Drivers moving through a green light may have little time to react when another vehicle enters the crossing unexpectedly. When large commercial trucks are involved, the weight and stopping distance of the vehicle can increase the force of contact and lead to wider property damage.
Road conditions, traffic speed, visibility, and signal timing are often reviewed after this type of roadway collision. Investigators may also examine vehicle positions, skid marks, and debris patterns to help determine how traffic was moving before contact occurred. In some cases, nearby businesses or traffic cameras may provide footage that helps explain the sequence of moments leading up to the roadway damage and injuries.
