Midland, TX (August 20, 2026) — Two 18-wheelers were involved in a wreck on Wednesday morning, August 19, at the five-points intersection connecting State Highway 158 and South County Road 1213 near Midland, in Midland County, according to fire officials.
Emergency units were dispatched after reports of the accident came in. Those involved suffered minor injuries, according to responders.
Highway 158 was restricted to a single lane while crews cleared debris and secured the scene.
State troopers have taken over the investigation into the cause. Further details were not immediately available.

Why Five-Point Intersections Are More Complex Than Standard Crossings
A standard four-way intersection asks drivers to track traffic from three other directions in addition to their own. A five-point intersection adds a fifth approach to the mix, increasing the number of possible paths vehicles can take and making it harder for any one driver to predict exactly where another vehicle is headed.
Signal timing and right-of-way rules also tend to be less intuitive at these intersections. Some require multiple signal phases to safely separate all the different approaches, and lane markings can look unusual to a driver who isn’t familiar with that particular crossing, increasing the chance of confusion about which lane leads where.
For large trucks, this complexity is compounded by the wider turning radius and greater length they need to safely navigate an extra approach angle. Drivers unfamiliar with a five-point intersection are generally encouraged to slow down well in advance and take a moment to read the signage clearly, rather than assuming the crossing works like a typical four-way stop or signal.
