Why Smoke Exposure Can Be Dangerous During Apartment Fires
Smoke exposure is one of the leading causes of harm during apartment fires. Even a small amount of smoke inside an enclosed building can make breathing difficult within minutes. Children are often more vulnerable because their lungs are still developing and they breathe faster than adults.
Medical teams usually check for breathing trouble, burns, or signs of carbon monoxide exposure after a residential fire. Some symptoms may not appear right away, especially after inhaling smoke for an extended period. Doctors may monitor oxygen levels and watch for coughing, dizziness, or chest pain during treatment.
Apartment fires can also spread quickly through shared walls, ceilings, and ventilation systems. Early evacuation and fast rescue efforts often help reduce the risk of more serious harm.
