Rollinsford, NH (May 28, 2026) – Two people suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon, May 27, after a two-vehicle crash on Route 4 in Rollinsford.
The collision happened shortly after 1:35 p.m. on Portland Avenue, also known as Route 4. Rollinsford police, Rollinsford firefighters, and Dover Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
Police said a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 was traveling west on Portland Avenue when it crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Impala traveling east. Both vehicles had heavy damage and came to rest in a ditch on the south side of the road.
Firefighters freed the Silverado driver, a 61-year-old Concord man, from the truck. He and the Impala driver, a 20-year-old Rollinsford woman, were taken to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Portland Avenue was closed for several hours between General Sullivan Way and Roberts Road/Baer Road for investigation and cleanup. No charges had been filed at the time of the report. We hope both injured drivers receive strong care and support during recovery.
Why Centerline Crashes Can Cause Severe Injuries
Centerline crashes can be serious because vehicles traveling in opposite directions may meet with strong front-end force. The impact can crush vehicle fronts, deploy airbags, and push vehicles off the road or into ditches. People inside may suffer head, chest, spine, leg, or internal injuries.
When a driver is trapped, rescue crews may need to cut or move parts of the vehicle before the patient can be safely removed. This can take time, especially when there is heavy damage. Investigators may review lane position, road markings, speed, visibility, vehicle damage, and witness statements. These details can help explain how the vehicles came together and why both drivers suffered life-threatening injuries.
