How Left-Turn Crashes Often Happen on Two-Lane Roads
Left-turn crashes are common on rural and two-lane highways where vehicles travel at higher speeds, and drivers have limited time to react. These collisions frequently occur when one driver attempts to cross traffic while another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction.
Visibility can play a major part in these situations, especially during busy travel periods or when hills and curves limit sight distance. Drivers turning left are usually expected to yield to oncoming traffic before completing the maneuver. Even a brief miscalculation involving speed or distance can lead to a serious roadway collision.
After a crash involving multiple vehicles, medical evaluations may continue long after the initial reports are released. In some cases, the full extent of injuries is not immediately known during the early stages following the wreck.
