Owaneco, IL (August 19, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle wreck near Illinois Route 29 and County Road 1500 East, northwest of Owaneco, on Monday morning, according to Illinois State Police. Both occupants were taken to an area hospital with injuries.
A secondary crash happened at the same location afterward, though no injuries were reported in that one. Route 29 remained closed between Owaneco and the Taylorville Correctional Center as of 11:45 a.m. while the investigation continued.

Why Do Secondary Crashes Happen at the Same Location as an Original One?

Preventing additional crashes at the same location is treated as an immediate priority, alongside caring for anyone who is hurt.
